Josh Kim dot Org: How Does Mint.com Make Money?

  • Aaron · 2 years ago

Hey Josh, sorry you couldn't add your accounts today. We had a few thousand people try to add many thousands of accounts in a two hour period...we may have overwhelmed a few banks that we link to.

Things should be back up and running right now...but we're getting a lot more traction (great) than I imagined so things may be a little slower than usual today and tomorrow.

Yeah, I still can't add any accounts yet, but I'm sure things will cool down a little bit tomorrow. Thanks!

So how do you make money (directed at Aaron - whom I assume works at mint)? The referral program is all I could see (credit card offers, etc)? I presume you may offer some premium features down the line?

I LOVE the site btw. You owe your web developers a big bonus because it is one of the prettiest sites I have seen of late.

They make money in by generating leads, and unfortunately, the offers are not something people are searching or looking for, and they don't actually make any sense, so if they sign up 1,000,000 users, they might get 1% of them to actually "Save" and respond to one of their marketing offers ... this site is going to BOMB.

Looks like the site is picking up traction. There has to be more earning potential if investors got involved so early in development. Investors are all about bottom line not just for the improvement of life (ideally a combination of the two though). So any new feedback on how they make money? Seems like it could be converted to a pay service at some point...once we are all dependent on them.

Hey Josh, this is Francis from high school. I was searching for articles on whether Mint.com can be trusted with my bank account info and was pleasantly surprised that it led me here. So have you figured out how Mint makes money? And would you say Mint can be trusted?

I think I may need to do another post on Mint.com. I've used it for over a year now, and it's been fantastic.

You should go see the video that explains the security on Mint, done by the Founder/CEO. http://www.mint.com/privacy/
